Growing your career through internships

Internships are defined as the work experience offered by the companies for a limited period of time to the fresher in order to learn how the company operates. The limited period sometimes may differ from 15 days to six months. Internships can be with stipend or may be unpaid depending on the company policy for the internship. The fresher undergoing internship is called as intern. Internships are given by the companies, non-government organizations and research institutes. Internships are very useful in order to gain experience of the relevant skills in a field of interest.

Some of the organizations provide internships which are full-time or part-time with the convenience of the student. Now there are options available to do internships in your city or nearby while some provides virtual internships which are more reliable to the students living in the remote areas. Initially, Internships was compulsory to the medical graduates but gradually other fields also get concerned for the internships. Interns may be high school students, under graduates and the post -graduate adults.

      
An internship is essential for the career growth because of the points indicated below:-
1. As it provides real-life experience and exposure to the company's or an organization's operations. First time hands-on-training is provided during internship. One gets compatible with corporate atmosphere. Experience of trying something new will be more beneficial. Internship gives exposure to the new connections and help in building a professional network.

2. The  Opportunity to learn more about yourself - It's a better opportunity to self-analyze yourself during the internship. It is a chance to do a SWOT analysis of yourself. To think about your future goals. For example, A Graduate can explore and sharpen the skills relevant to his/her field of interests. It gives a chance to decide whether to continue with the relevant field or to try something else.

3. If anyone is recent graduate and does not have full-time work experience then working as full time employee in a company, the transition may be difficult. Every boss is not a mistake-tolerant. So it is better to grab an internship and if you are a better performer, the company will provide a full time job.

With the reference to the above points, An internship is most important for the growth of the career. Like biological terminology, "Internship can be called as structural and functional unit of the Career".
